Stained Glass in History
Ancient Egyptians and Romans both made colored glass, but the use of stained glass in windows really started to surge in the 11th Century, as Europeans began building lots of monumental churches. Secular use of stained glass grew in the 19th and 20th Centuries, and many public buildings and private homes now feature stained glass windows with Victorian, Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, or other more modern designs.
